The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is the latest state association to announce the launch of its own T20 league, scheduled for the 2025-26 season. This move aligns with a growing trend among state cricket bodies to create platforms for local talent.
GCA Secretary Anil Patel confirmed the decision to Cricbuzz, stating that the association is currently working to determine a suitable window for the tournament. The number of participating teams and other critical details are yet to be finalized.
These domestic T20 leagues have emerged as crucial scouting grounds for IPL franchises. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra have already proven successful in providing local players with opportunities to shine and potentially earn a spot in the Indian Premier League. Many of these leagues are typically held in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
