Android security warning
The Indian CERT-In warns Android users of 'High' severity security flaws in multiple versions of the operating system, including vulnerabilities that could lead to obtaining sensitive information, gaining elevated privileges, executing arbitrary code, and causing denial of service conditions.

The agency reports the discovery of multiple security flaws across various versions of Android, including vulnerabilities that could allow malicious actors to compromise user devices.

Government Statement on Android Vulnerabilities

According to the CERT-In report, attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities to:

  • Obtain sensitive information.
  • Gain elevated system privileges.
  • Execute arbitrary code.
  • Cause denial-of-service conditions.

The vulnerabilities stem from weaknesses in various components of the Android system, including the Framework, System, AMLogic, Arm components, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components. Successful exploitation of these flaws could grant attackers access to sensitive data, elevate their privileges within the system, execute malicious code, or even render the device unusable through denial-of-service attacks.

Affected Android Versions

The identified vulnerabilities affect a range of Android versions, specifically:

  • Android 11
  • Android 12
  • Android 12L
  • Android 13
  • Android 14

Both smartphones and tablets running these versions of Android are potentially at risk.

Recommended Solution

CERT-In strongly advises all Android users to install the latest security patches available for their devices.

Update Instructions

To check for and install the latest security updates, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your smartphone or tablet.
